Hurricane season and your open permit

June 2, 2026 — 4 min read — Florida A2Z Construction

Storm clouds over jobsite

An open permit during hurricane season is a shared responsibility. The contractor secures the site; the policy expects documentation. Getting both right before a storm is named keeps a claim clean.

Securing the site

Loose material gets removed or tied down, open envelopes get dried in, and anything that can become a projectile is staged or hauled off. We run a storm checklist the moment a system enters the cone.

What your policy expects

Insurers want to see that the site was reasonably secured and that the contractor carried the right coverage. Keep the certificate of insurance and the dry-in documentation on file — the paperwork is what turns a good-faith effort into a defensible claim.
